#2: Its not just the “Blues”

We all feel sad for some reason or other at many times in our lives.  But having depression is something fundamentally different and may affect your daily life for weeks at a time.  This is not something you can “shake off” or “pray away” (although prayer is great!) or “get over”;  A man even said to me once, he is “too busy” to be depressed.  It’s nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed about.  It is not a sign of being “weak”.  If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms for prolonged periods of time, please visit your doctor. Relief is possible!  Bless you!

Some common symptoms of major depression:

  • Feeling sad or empty;
  • Loss of interest in favorite activities
  • Feeling hopeless, irritable, anxious, or guilty
  • Feeling very tired
  • Not being able to sleep, or sleeping too much
  • Overeating, or not wanting to eat at all
  • Thoughts of suicide, suicide attempts
  • Aches, pains, headaches, cramps, or digestive problems
