You don’t have to suffer alone!

It does not cease to break my heart every time I hear another “excuse” or stigma to explain away depression or any struggle with a mental illness.  “I’m just not praying hard enough” or “I’m too busy to get depressed”, “I don’t need medicine to feel better”, “I’m not crazy!” …you fill in the blank.

But I understand, for I too had embraced the stigmas when I first began to experience my own struggle with depression.  It took me three years, a near suicide attempt and hospitalization before finally “getting” it and choosing to get the help I needed.

You don’t have to go through this alone.  Its not your fault!  You did not choose this!  It is an illness not unlike diabetes or cancer. Who would dare say someone chose to have cancer?  You are not weak if you need medicine to get better.  It is not a reflection of your character if you have depression.  It is a reflection of your brain chemistry.  Please… if you are struggling emotionally, if you’re not sure what is going on, check it out.  Go to your primary care doctor, ask some questions.  Help is available.  Depression can be treated and there is always hope.

This is why I wrote my new book “10 Things I Wish I Knew About Depression Before it Almost Took My Life” (2014).  Please check it out.  It breaks down common stigmas with facts, faith and my story.  It has been endorsed by the Department of Psychiatry, Emory Healthcare and other independent therapists.  I hope it can be of use to you or someone you care about. http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/bethsarahwright

The sun is rising on mental health issues.  It is more than time to shed new light on these issues.

Be the light, friends!  Be the light!

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” Romans 8
