A Journey into JOY

Day 1. #pilgrimagetojoy

On this Ash Wednesday, I’ll begin a journey into joy. That word has been whispering to me since the dawn of the new year. I seek it. I desire it. I yearn for it. I hope for it. It eludes me and I want to taste some joy. We could all use more joy in our lives. This Lent, for the next 40 days, I invite you to join me on this journey into joy. Each day I will meditate on some element of joy to gain a deeper understanding…something that brings me joy…an image…a quote…a poem….What are your thoughts about joy? What brings you joy? Not fleeting happiness. Not cheer or gladness. Rather, a sustainable, abiding joy in the face of all that life brings us. Journey with me.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13.

I’ll begin with a poem of mine from my book, Becoming Who I Am.

A Pilgrimage to Joy.

Encounter. Entangle. Enrage.

Enquire. Enlist. Entreat.

Engage. Enact. Endure.

Enshrine. Enable. Enliven.

Endeavor. Enough.

EnJOY!

  1. Ceci Duke says:

Joy is when you feel yourself on the right track. You may not know the destination but you feel confident that there is a path of integrity. Joy to you, Beth Sarah!

  2. Keith Dumke says:

Joy is that feeling of a weight lifted off your shoulders. It is that comfort that allows you to believe that you are on a firm path, confident in your journey and open to all the possibilities. When I work with youth I often tell them…”don’t let anyone steal your joy – it is a gift from God that you should allow no one the right to take away.” And I often remind myself when people trouble me that they cannot steal my joy. Be blessed this Lenten season.

  3. Richard E.Wood says:

Joy is when you have done all that you can and it is not enough. but you are not sad because you know that god will make it right.. Enjoy and be glad. for Joy will come in the Morning.

  4. Love this Keith! Hope you are faring well in all this. Be blessed and joy to you and your family!
