Seek out the Joy

Day 18. #pilgrimagetojoy

Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it. I was surrounded by the beautiful crying forth of the ideas of God…

Mary Oliver

I said to myself on Ash Wednesday that I would write each day a meditation on a journey to joy. Like the rest of the world, I could have never imagined the chaos and uncertainty of the time we are living in. I am finding it harder and harder to meditate on joy in these times. But I continue to be reminded of the remarkable ways God works and I remain committed to seeking out joy. God never promised there would never be trials or sufferings. God promised God’s steady presence in the midst of it all.

So I continue to seek it out. I am joyful my family is home with me. Joyful to see their faces and just know they are close and we can hunker down together. I am joyful for the surge of prayer and kindness and thoughtfulness and togetherness and unexpected beauty around the world even with the mandated social distancing and fear. I am joyful to know that closed schools will provide food for those families whose only meal may be the one they get at school. “Count it all joy” the Bible says in James 1: 2-4. Count it ALL joy.

God provided us all we need to survive and thrive, no matter the circumstance. Pay attention to the way God works.
