YOU can save a life! Suicide is real but NOT the answer.

Did you know you have the power to save lives?  Did you know that you can give hope to someone who may feel hopeless?

In a recent NY Times article a study on suicide states that the rates of suicide has surged to an all time high over 30 years.  It has risen in every age group except older adults and most alarmingly among girls ages 10 to 14. In all, 42,773 people died from suicide in 2014, compared with 29,199 in 1999.

Suicide is a public health issue.  This is an issue that we can all address:

We can address it by talking about hope in the face of hopelessness.

We can remind folks that suicidal thoughts may be a symptom of depression AND

depression (and other mental disorders) is an illness not unlike cancer or diabetes.

We can say that having depression is not your fault, that you did not bring it on yourself, it is not a reflection of your character and it nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed about.

We can tell our own stories.  We can encourage others to tell theirs…with no expectations, no judgement…only love.

We can talk about the Help that is always available-  primary care physicians, therapists; medication, healthy diets, wholistic methods, light therapy and the list goes on.

Help, Hope and healing is available!

If you are having suicidal thoughts, remember you are loved, you are ENOUGH and you deserve life, No Matter What.
